While this hourglass is functional in a sense, the meteorite within the necklace also does not fall like sand. As meteorite is magnetic, it slightly sticks together and falls far more slowly and only when gently jostled with normal wear. It was brought to our attention that on occasion the dust may stick and not flow through the small passageway of the hourglass, in which case the top can be unscrewed and a needle used to carefully free the stuck dust.

Although the chain is very nice, I restrung the pendant on something just a bit longer so that it would hang a bit lower and I wouldn’t have to deal with a clasp.
It arrived with the dust mainly in the upper portion of the hourglass and only a few grains in the lower section… it’s so fine and slightly magnetic that no amount of tapping it would release more to the bottom. But I found that the round bead at the top that holds the hanging loop could actually unscrew and be removed; allowing me to insert a needle and fiddle around until I got more of the dust into the bottom part and then screw the hanger back on. I really think it will just stay that way now.
It comes with a small informational card about the dust composition and age. I think the hourglass theme was fitting for my birthday (I used a gift card for my purchase). I love it!
